3 Days Nyiragongo Hike

Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali City tour & Transfer to Goma in DR Congo

Upon Arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by Rwanda Safaris guide and start with simple city tour to visit the genocide memorial , and later transfer to Gisenyi town which is located at the border with Congo's Goma side, enjoy lunch and later proceed to cross to Goma town via Grande barrier border where you will be granted visa stamps , continue to your hotel in Goma.

Note:  Goma City is the capital of North Kivu province in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located on the northern shore of Lake Kivu, next to the Rwandan city of Gisenyi.Goma is the hub for tourism within the region as its ease to connect to various tourists destinations from Goma which include the key other destinations like Kahuzi Biega National park , Lwiro Chimpanzee Orphanage & the Famous Virunga National Park without miss to the climb of Rwenzori Mountains.

Day 2: Nyiragongo Volcanic Hike

After breakfast at the hotel , you will be picked by the guide and start on the 1 hour drive to   Kibati station within Virunga national park which is the beginning point for the hike at Nyiragongo. The trek to the Volcanic Lava lake in Nyiragongo volcano takes approximately 5 to 7 hours depending on the level of fitness of the traveler.  Lunch will be en route since there are few resting points before arriving at the summit of the peak.

Once you have summited to the peak , you will enjoy the view of the Mount Mikeno, Nyamuragira , and Lake Kivu , and other mountains including Rwenzori Mountains that are shared between Uganda & DR Congo. Dinner and overnight at the Nyiragongo Cabin Shelters

Day 3: Descend Nyiragongo & Transfer back to Kigali

You will enjoy break fast at the summit , morning comes too early compared to other part of Congo and you will start to descend the nyiragongo Mountain back to Kibati Station where your Safari guide is  waiting to transfer you to the town of Goma so that you can take a tour around the city. Visit the Lava areas and the Goma caves before you can head to the border, cross back to Kigali and drive to Kigali International Airport.
