Mount Bisoke
Mount Bisoke
Mountain Bisoke is one of the most memorable and adventurous tourist attractions in the Republic of Rwanda. It is an active volcano in the Virunga mountains of the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift and it stretches along the border of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, but the summit is located in Rwanda. The mountain is approximately 35km northeast of the Goma town and adjacent Lake Kivu.
The hike of the mountain takes about 6 hours including the 2 hours of descending down to the starting point. On the day of hiking, hikers meet at the park headquarters at Kinigi at 7:00am to attend the briefing and be assigned a park ranger. Since the park rangers are natives of Volcanoes national park, they narrate all the necessary information to the hikers. At around 8:00am, the experience will begin and you will be assigned porters to carry your baggage. At the top of the mountain/volcano, you will have a spectacular view of a crater lake and other features.
