7 Days Burundi Safari

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival At Bujumbura International Airport.

Upon on arrival at Bujumbura international Airport ,  you will be welcomed by the Rwanda Safaris guide , who will transfer you to the hotel for early check in and simple breakfast before embarking on the city tour of Bujumbura City which is the capital city of Burundi.

The City is re-known for many historical events that range from Slave trade routes, Shores of Lake Tanganyika, Museum, Local Markets and independence grounds later return to the lodge for Dinner and overnight.

Note if its Weekend ( Friday Evening ) there is always performance of the local dances on the hotels and stand a chance to visit the club on request to your Safari guide.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibira National Park

After morning breakfast, your Safari guide will be available to transfer you to Kibira national park the home for the primates within Burundi and the commonest primate in this park is the chimpanzee watching.  Kibira Forest national park is the largest forest area in Burundi and its the continuation of Nyungwe forest national Park Rwanda.

The Chimpanzee tracking starts at 8:30 am and it takes between 2 -4hours depending on the chimpanzee movement within the jungle and the season of the food, you will spot various bird species, small primates like monkeys, Seasonal river and water falls in the National Park of Kibira.

After the experience you will transfer to Gitega Which is the tourism hub in Burundi and all enjoyment takes place in the magical Gitega town.

Day 3: Visit to Source of the Nile & Karera falls

You will have your breakfast at the lodge and prepare to check out of the hotel as you will drive to the beautiful destinations in Burundi .  Visiting the most powerful water falls in Burundi of Karera Falls and the source of the nile in Burundi.  The History of the source of the Nile is unclear although it was settled by the levison wood  during his walking on the Nile journey, still Burundi and Rwanda claim to own the source of the Nile .

Since Burundi is located in the Congo basin and Bile basin , then you will find the falls with strong water points as you will explore the five water falls of  Nyakayi 1, Nyakayi 2, Karera 1, Karera 2 and Mwaro ( Unique Memory on the burundi Safari with Rwanda Safaris )  The adventure is expected to last for 2-3 hours including the explanation the historical development of the Water falls and the Source of the Nile , Later you will start to drive to Ngozi Town which is close to Rubuvu national park.

Day 4:  Explore Gitega for a cultural Experience

You will wake up in the feel of Cultural experience in Gitega and after breakfast you will head to the Gitega museum for the drum experience along side other cultural tours within the region , traditions and customs of the Burundian people. While on this tour, you will learn about the Burundi towards the Burundi culture and the political history of Burundi governance.  You will also visit the drummers traditional experience entertainment by Burundi Drummers while enjoying a cold drink. After the experience, you be driven to the hotel for relaxation, overnight stay and dinner.

Day 5: Transfer to Rubavu National park

Upon early morning breakfast, you will start on the drive to connect to Rubavu National park which is known for the wildlife watching tours where you will arrive at late morning and head for the game drive after the payment of the park fees , you will have an opportunity to spot a number of animals like antelopes, buffaloes, blue monkeys among others. You will then have lunch and then set out for an afternoon boat cruise. While at the boat cruise, you will be able to spot hippos and proceed to the hotel, later transfer back to Bujumbura City.

Day 6: Rusizi national park & game drive

You will enjoy breakfast and transfer to Rusizi National park , the home for the oldest Crocodile in Africa, Game drive and watching of the hippos and  sitatungas (antelope). you will  spot a variety of birds in  the wetland and the water reservation areas of the river that draws its waters from Lake Kivu from Congo & Rwanda hence the Rusizi Border in Eastern democratic republic of Congo.

After the Game drive , you will transfer back to the hotel for relaxation and explore the Lake Tanganyika.

Day 7: Boat cruise & Transfer to Airport for Flight Back home.

After breakfast, you will proceed for a boat cruise along Lake Tanganyika. This boat trip will give you an opportunity to meet the fishermen who throw their nets and observe the quiet life of the villages on the shores of the lake. You will also learn about the history of Lake Tanganyika , Later return to the lodge for lunch before the transfer to the Airport for the flight back home.
