Formerly known as Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, Gorilla Guardian Village is located around Volcanoes national park in Nyabigoma, Kinigi, Musanze district in the Northern province of Rwanda. The village is one of the places that make Rwanda a top destination to visit for an African safari. It is also one of leading cultural attractions in Rwanda combining almost all the country’s known cultural traditions like people and history.
The people living in the village where the inhabitants of Volcanoes forest and when it was gazetted as a national park, they located in the nearby places including Iby’Iwacu now called Gorilla Guardian village. These people at the center were hunters and porters who then reformed to cultural hunters, crafts men and also traditional herbalists.
During the visit at the place, guests get an opportunity of seeing the typical African lifestyle that comprises of African houses, traditional dances, dressing codes, herbs, food plus the organization of the ancient kingdoms. Gorilla trekking experience.
Done in the thick rainforests of Volcanoes national park, gorilla trekking is the most reason why thousands of travelers drive to the Republic of Rwanda. The experience involves hiking through the thick rainforests of the park in search of the endangered mountain gorillas and once sighted, you are allowed to spend a full hour in their presence.
Note: For one to take part in the activity, he or she must possess a trekking permit which costs USD 1500 per person. Kids under the age of 15 and those with any medical issue are not allowed to trek.
