Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes national park
On the first day, you will be welcomed and picked up by your guide/driver from Kigali International Airport or Hotel for your transfer to Kigali city for a city excursion. While on the tour, you will visit places like the Kigali genocide site, Belgian peace center and after you will go for lunch at the hotel of your choice. After, you will drive to Volcanoes national park via Ruhengeri and upon the arrival, you will check in at the lodge of your choice for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience
Wake up for your early breakfast and meet your drive for the transfer to Volcanoes national park headquarters for briefing about the mountain gorilla trek. After briefing, you will start the walk by the lead of the game ranger passing through different vegetation zones. After finding them, you will be allowed to spend an hour in their presence as you enjoy them doing their daily activities like breastfeeding, glooming the young ones, playing and others. After, you will return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Golden monkey tracking and Guardian Village visit
Have your breakfast at the lodge and then drive to the park headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts during the experience. You will then move to the park forests by the guidance of the ranger to search for the apes and once they are allocated, you will be allowed to spend an hour in their presence.
Later, you will drive back to the lodge for lunch and then prepare for community village where you will get a chance of becoming a King or Queen for a day. This community visit will take place in Gorilla Guardians Village and after you will move back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Hike up to Mount Karisimbi volcano summit
Have your tasty breakfast at the lodge and prepare for a hike to Mount Karisimbi. The hike starts at the park headquarters where you will meet the hiking team rangers and other hikers and after drive off to the starting point. The hike will take 2 days 1 night and you will walk through the forest cover where you will spot several species like birds, small mammals, insects, butterflies and others. Upon reaching at the summit, you will take beautiful photographs and also spend your pressure night near the moon and stars.
Day 5: Descend and drive to Lake Kivu
In the morning, have your breakfast at the summit and then begin the descend down to the starting point. Also, during the descend, you will pass through different vegetation zones as you enjoy the excellent views of different species like birds, small animals and others. Upon the arrival at the point, you will meet your driver/guide for your transfer to Lake Kivu.
Day 6: Full day at Lake Kivu
Wake up for breakfast and go for amazing experiences on the shores of the beautiful Lake Kivu. While at the lake, engage in different experiences like boat trip, kayaking and also a chance to visit DR Congo – Rwanda border. After the full day relaxation along the lake shores, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Drive back to Kigali
Wake up for your late breakfast and later start off your journey to Kigali international airport for your departure flight or you will be transferred to the lodge of your night.
